Q: What is the SC Wildcats?

A: The SC Wildcats is a chapter in the Gold Coast Youth Football League. The organization offers Tackle Football and Cheer participation for youth in the Santa Clarita Valley since 2005.

Q: What is the Santa Clarita Youth Sports Association (SCYSA)?

A: The Santa Clarita Youth Sports Association is a Non-Profit 501 (C) 3 organization dedicated to providing a positive sports experience for children and families in the Santa Clarita Valley. The SCYSA and its’ affiliate organizations offer youth sports participation in Tackle Football and Cheer.

The SCYSA holds membership in the Gold Coast Youth Football League as the Santa Clarita Valley Chapter, operating and managing the Santa Clarita Wildcats youth football club www.scwildcats.org

Q: What is the GCYFL?

A: The Gold Coast Youth Football League manages youth football participation for member Chapters, including the SCYSA. The Gold Coast League provides a competitive athletic environment with weight restrictive divisions and governs play among participating Chapters.

Q: Who is eligible to participate with the SCYSA’s football clubs?

A: Children ages 6-14 by July 31 residing in the Santa Clarita Valley and surrounding areas are all eligible to participate within the age and weight parameters of the GCYFL.

Q: What are the Chapter Boundaries

A: The SCYSA has designated boundaries for participating football players based on the six Hart High School Districts.

Wildcats: West Ranch, Valencia and Hart

Grizzlies: Golden Valley and Canyon

Spartans: Saugus

Q: When is registration?

A: 2019 Registration opens March 1. Several teams are currently full at each Chapter and we anticipate every team to fill up quickly based on Interest List submissions. Once teams are full, overflow players will be placed on a Wait List and will be contacted by first week of April should additional teams be added.

Q: What documentation is required to participate with the Wildcats

A: Each participant must have the following forms completed:

  • Completed Physical form - your pediatrician must complete and sign the physical form provided.
    • You must provide an ORIGINAL birth certificate at the opening of conditioning camp. Your player can not participate until both forms are provided.
  • Completed Player Application form
  • Completed Player Code of Conduct form
  • Completed Video/Photo Release form

Q: What is the time commitment/when do your teams begin practicing and what is the schedule?

A: The 2019 season opens on July 22 to July 26 with a mandatory SCYSA Conditioning Camp. Then team practice for all divisions begin the following two weeks, Monday to Friday for two (2) hours each day to meet the 15-day requirement prior to tackling. Conditioning Camp and Team Practices will be held at Rancho Pico Junior High. After the 15-day mandatory camp and pratice, team practices may go to 3-days a week depending on your coach. Jamboree is scheduled on Saturday, August 24 and regular season opening game is on Saturday, August 31. Games are played Saturdays, with 8-9 games for the regular season. Playoffs occur in November with the Super Bowl taking place the week before Thanksgiving.

We believe that your child’s experience is directly correlated to the support he or she receives both on and off the football field and thereby promote total family participation. Each family is asked to volunteer a minimum of four hours throughout the season on Chapter-related activities.

Q: Where are practices held and games played?

A: Wildcats conditioning camp and team practice are held at Rancho Pico Junior High School. Home games will be held at West Ranch High School or Valencia High School for 2019. Away games may include the cities of Camarillo, Acton, Fillmore, Westlake, Moorpark, Oxnard, Santa Paula, Simi Valley, the San Fernando Valley and Ventura.

Q: In which division should my child play?

A: Age and weight determines your child’s division of play. For more details, please refer to the GCYFL Age/Weight Schedule.

Q: Can girls play?

A: Yes, all eligible children are eligible to participate in the SCYSA’ Football/Cheer program.

Q: What is Certification?

A: Player certification is a process whereby the GCYFL Commissioners audit player eligibility through the careful inspection of documentation, photo verification and proof of weight. Team officials prepare a book for the League Commissioners compliant with their needs and accompany the players and Head Coaches to the designated certification venue twice during the season: pre-season and post-season prior to play-offs.

Q: How much is the 2019 Football and Cheer Program Registration Fee?

A: The registration fee for all SC Wildcats Football division is $575 per child. SC Wildcats Cheer registration fee for 2019 will be published on April 1.

Q: What equipment do the SC Wildcats provide and what will we have to provide?

A: The SC Wildcats provide most of your field equipment: one (1) football helmet, one (1) shoulder pads, (1) game pants and two (2) game jerseys - one home and one away and one (1) practice jersey, all of which are distributed prior to conditioning camp and required to be returned upon the close of the season. Your child keeps his game jerseys.  We also provide SC WIldcats Camp Gear (check our 2019 Camp gear on Facebook and Instagram).

You provide football cleats, mouth guard, practice pants with pads, under-garments including a girdle, an athletic supporter and cup, socks as well as elective equipment such as gloves and arm pads. We recommend that you discuss elective equipment needs with your Head Coach prior to purchasing.

Q: What does my child bring to practice and the games?

A: Simple - a positive attitude, the desire and willingness to work hard, full gear and uniform, and plenty of water.

Q: How much game time is my child guaranteed to play?

A: GCYFL Official Rules require that each player play a minimum of 12 action plays per game.

Q: Is there fundraising?

A: Your football registration fee already include an SCYSA donation fee. This is the only fundraising effort the SCYSA will ask for. Teams may elect to fundraise to offset their year-end banquet expenses.

Q: Who do I go to if I have a question or problem during the season?

A: Depending on the nature of your problem, you may direct your question to either your Head Coach or Team Manager. Board members are also available to discuss issues that are unable to be resolved at the team level.

Q: What is the SC Wildcats Chapter Refund Policy?

A: All registrations for Football and Cheer are FINAL. Refunds will not be granted should a player or cheerleader elect not to participate in the SC Wildcat program.
